F-Secure has unveiled a new type of fake AV (anti-virus) on Facebook spreading in different names such as Facebook Antivirus, Facebook antivirus and Antivirus in Facebook.This kind of counterfeit AV is revealed to show up fake links with Panda Cloud Antivirus, with the titles namely Cloud Antivirus, Panda Cloud Antivirus & Panda Antivirus Free Download.

The infection spread is discerned to spread via a contact with a friend of those people who find themselves in a quagmire as the program attaches images obtained from a genuine application.

It is reported that when placed onto a Facebook profile, the program will affix its own image together with 20 people’s names fetched randomly from the victim’s address book. From there, when the individuals discover their names attached, they naturally click on the image.

In addition, a random link in the image is known to appear, which when clicked, an option appeared which allegedly enables the user to access the program from his profile.

Security researchers, addressing the issue, said that Facebook Antivirus was merely one more sample of worthless application, hazardous to gullible users.
